About Shores Landing

In February 2021, the County of San Mateo selected MidPen and Mental Health Association of San Mateo County (MHA) to operate and manage a senior supportive housing community at the 95-room former Marriott TownePlace Suites hotel in the Redwood Shores neighborhood of Redwood City. The County acquired the TownePlace Suites in December 2020 using Homekey Program funds, which were awarded by the State of California. Shores Landing will house the County’s most vulnerable residents, extremely low-income seniors aged 62 and older, some of whom have experienced homelessness, are at risk of homelessness, have lost their homes due to Covid-19, or are medically-frail seniors enrolled in the County’s Community Care Settings program. MidPen and MHA will offer future residents a robust set of supportive services that include, but are not limited to: case management, housing stability support, individual service plans, community-based referrals, health education and wellness programming, life skills development, lease compliance services, and more.

About Project Homekey

Project Homekey is a program by the State of California that provides local governmental agencies with funds to purchase and rehabilitate housing – such as hotels, motels, vacant apartment buildings and other properties – and convert them into permanent, long-term housing for people experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. On June 30, 2020, Governor Gavin Newsom announced the launch of Project Homekey to protect vulnerable Californians from the COVID-19 pandemic. The governor has made funding available for counties to collaborate with the state to acquire and rehabilitate various housing options and to provide supportive services. Funding for the program comes from the State’s allocation of federal Coronavirus Aid Relief Funds and the state’s General Fund.
More information about this program can be found on the California Department of Housing and Community Development's website: https://hcd.ca.gov/grants-funding/active-funding/homekey.shtml
